Sam, with high school and college classmate Nelson Boachie-Yiadom, after 2022 NCAA Tournament First Round Game vs. Michigan State

Sam Goldfarb is a play-by-play broadcaster originally from Farmington, Connecticut and a Magna Cum Laude graduate of Davidson College.

Sam called his first sporting event at age 15 as The Loomis Chaffee School’s first student broadcaster. Already an established writer and Sports Editor for the school newspaper, The Loomis Chaffee Log (and later serving as its Editor-in-Chief), Sam jumped at the chance to call Loomis’ home football games. By the time he graduated high school, Sam commentated on over 50 live-streamed games across 4 different sports: football, basketball, soccer, and lacrosse.

Sam was selected by his peers to be the student Commencement Speaker, and he took the opportunity to recount the oddly fortuitous event that led him into sports journalism – being one of the only students ever cut from the ninth-grade basketball team. After realizing that his dreams of hitting a March Madness buzzer beater ended unceremoniously at age 14, Sam redirected his passion for sports and found a way to feel like part of the team from the sidelines. At the Sports Awards Night during his senior year, an event typically honoring varsity athletes, Sam was recognized with the first-ever “Loomis Chaffee Golden Mic Award” in appreciation of his dedicated and enthusiastic commitment to high school athletics.

Sam forged his own path into Division I college play-by-play at Davidson College. As the only student broadcaster among a pool of professional freelancers, Sam was on the call for approximately 100 Davidson games streamed on ESPN+, including Men’s Basketball, Women’s Basketball, Men’s Soccer, Women’s Soccer, Baseball, Women’s Lacrosse, Field Hockey, and Volleyball. Sam was a color analyst for football on Learfield’s radio productions on the Davidson Wildcat Sports Network, as well as on home football games streamed on Davidson All-Access.

While still a student at Davidson, Sam entered and won a “play-by-playoff” to be the “Voice of Stumptown AC,” a NISA league professional Men’s Soccer team based in Matthews, NC. Sam called 12 home games as the lead commentator for Stumptown AC on the ELEVEN Sports Network. During the Summer of 2021 and the Spring of 2022, Sam worked at ESPN 730: The Game in Charlotte, North Carolina and could often be heard on-air as “Intern Sam” in various recurring afternoon drive-time segments.

During the 2022-23 and 2023-24 athletics seasons, Sam was the primary ESPN+ broadcaster for Davidson College, covering Men’s Basketball, Men’s Soccer, Women’s Soccer, Baseball, Volleyball, Women’s Lacrosse, and Field Hockey, as well as select Football games. Additionally, Sam freelanced actively around the Carolinas, working for Clemson University, Wake Forest University, Duke University, UNC Greensboro, High Point University, UNC Charlotte, Furman University, Queens University of Charlotte, and Gardner-Webb University. Throughout those 2 college seasons, Sam commentated on approximately 230 Division I athletic events. Sam continues to broadcast a wide array of college games throughout the Carolinas during the professional soccer offseason.

Sam is currently calling MLS NEXT Pro, USL League One, and USL Championship professional soccer matches for NEP South Florida (formerly known as VISTA Worldlink), out of studios based in Dania Beach, Florida, in addition to CONCACAF Nations League, Central American Cup, Caribbean Cup, and W Champions Cup contests for Mediapro U.S. (located in Medley, Florida). In his spare time, Sam remains an avid Premier League and US National Team Soccer fan.

Sam is a versatile, multi-sport broadcaster who is known for his extensive pre-game research, quick recall of historical details, keen insights into game play and strategy, and authentic, enthusiastic, and polished delivery.
